The Ragati Chehe Mountain Bongo Conservation Trust is a private conservation Kenyan registered Trust dedicated to protecting one of Africa’s rarest and most iconic antelopes — the mountain bongo.
Our Trustees include four organisations: Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, Mount Kenya Trust, Ragati River Management and the Mara Elephant Project / Mountain Bongo Project (formally the Bongo Surveillance Project).
We work at the intersection of public private stakeholders, including community collaboration, habitat restoration, and species recovery to safeguard the mountain bongo and the unique ecosystem of Mount Kenya.
Our efforts are rooted in science, guided by tradition, and driven by a shared belief that Kenya’s biodiversity is a national treasure worth preserving for generations to come.
Our Vision: To restore a thriving population of wild mountain bongos within their natural habitat in the Ragati / Chehe Mount Kenya ecosystem.
Our Mission: To conserve the critically endangered mountain bongo through reintroduction, habitat protection, scientific research, and community-led conservation efforts. We aim to build harmony between people, wildlife, and forests — ensuring a sustainable future for both nature and the communities who depend on it.
We collaborate with a network of conservationists, including Government agencies, Community Forest Associations, Kenyan and international scientists and local communities.
Together, we are working to ensure that both people and wildlife can thrive in the Ragati Chehe Forest.
